Firmware Release 2.2.1

Louise Whalley Updated by Louise Whalley

This page outlines the improved functionality included in the firmware update available on Monday 29th January 2024.

Beta AI clocking analysis

What have we done?

We have introduced a new feature for Clocking Analysis, this is a way of analysing clocking's made by users in real-time to determine if they fall within their normal working patterns. This feature is currently in Beta and customer feedback will be collected around this feature.

Why have we done this?

This feature will allow AI to analysis the clocking's reducing the manual intervention, any clocking's which fall outside of the expected behaviour can be flagged for further review and used to inform additional training requirements where necessary.

How will you benefit?

We can generate on demand a series of machine learning models for a user, device, or even the entire business. This is achieved by looking at the most recent three months of clocking data and intelligently categorising and grouping it as needed.

Details of the change

There is a separate document available detailing the changes for this new feature in more detail and can be found here.

More responsive and accessible UI

What have we done?

Changes have been made to the user interface on the T2 devices.

Why have we done this?

To improve the responsiveness and the user experience of using the touchscreen on the devices.

How will you benefit?

The user interface responds faster to touches, and navigates more quickly between pages. Some components have been updated to a more accessible colour palette.

Details of the change

The updated operating system allows us to use an improved graphics pipeline to display the user interface, resulting in a more responsive user experience. We have also implemented the first parts of an ongoing UX review aiming to improve the accessibility and ease-of-use of the devices.

Improved face detection

What have we done?

Implemented a new face detection model.

Why have we done this?

To improve the ability of the device to detect faces, particularly in poor lighting conditions.

How will you benefit?

Faces can be detected against a wider range of backgrounds, and in harsher lighting conditions, than when using the previous algorithm

Details of the change

Implemented a new face detection model to spot faces in the images provided by the camera. The new model can spot faces faster than the previous model, and from lower quality images. This does not impact the actual face identification process, which remains unchanged – there is no need to re-enrol users.

Improvements to internal card reader

What have we done?

Improved resilience of internal card reader to allow recovery from some hardware faults.

Why have we done this?

Some internal card readers were not reading cards when the internal reader failed, which resulted in devices needing a reboot to resolve.

How will you benefit?

The improvements made will mean that the device will not require a reboot in this scenario as the Firmware will check the internal card reader automatically.

Support for 2nd generation T2 hardware

What have we done?

Included the Firmware to support for T2 first and second generation terminals.

Why have we done this?

To constantly improve the hardware offering and availability to our customers.

How will you benefit?

T2 second generation terminals have a number on improvements including improvements to face detection, finger print readers etc.

Details of the change

This Firmware Release will work with both first and second generation T2 terminals, ensuring our customers have seamless integration regardless of the T2 device that they are using across their estates.

Upgraded operating system

What have we done?

This Firmware Release has the necessary upgrades to the Operating system, ensuring customers have the latest and most secure operating system on their terminals.

Why have we done this?

To ensure that customer have the latest and most secure operating version available.

How will you benefit?

Customer will not see a difference once the underlying operating system is updated although can be assured that the latest security requirements are being met.

Details of the change

The underlying operating system has been upgraded to the latest available libraries, including all applicable security and performance updates.
