Tenable Network Scans with MF900 and AC900 Devices

Louise Whalley Updated by Louise Whalley

Issue Overview

We have observed an increase in reports of MF900 and AC900 terminals becoming corrupted after a Tenable Network scan. The symptoms include failure to read cards and peripheral devices such as "request to exit switches" ceasing to function.

Cause and Symptoms

The issue appears to be triggered by the Tenable Network scan, which is often scheduled to run during the early hours. Looking at the boot log for an affected terminal might indicate a Master Reset occurred at the time of the scan. While not all cases follow this pattern, a Master Reset and subsequent full employee download typically resolves the issue.

Recommended Resolution

To mitigate this issue, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Identify the Scanning Activity: Confirm if a Tenable Network scan is being conducted on your network during the timeframe when the issue occurs.
  2. Whitelist the Terminals: If possible, whitelist the MF900 and AC900 terminals in your Tenable Network scanner configuration to prevent them from being scanned.
